- A: Get involved with this immediately. A doctor cannot tell by visual inspection alone that this 'tumor' is benign . . she may be going by 'experience' since she may have seen this same type on other women. However, doctors make mistakes . . more than anyone knows .. she was just trying to reassure you while you wait to have this removed. But she really is not 100 percent certain that this is benign at all .. I've seen it happen before when a patient was told this only to have the doctor later apologize for the 'mistake'. My feeling is that most doctors consider malignant tumors to be rare so their first inclination (probably taught in medical school) is to reassure the patient that the tumor is benign . . . but there are more and more cases occuring where the doctor ends up being wrong at your expense.
