What is the best over the counter medicine for menstrual cramps?
Q: I woke up this morning with horrible cramps! I'm going to drug mart later and I would like to know which medicine works best for menstrual cramps!
A: Naproxen sodium, brand name "Aleve."In the 1980's, naproxen sodium was prescription-only and was called "the magic blue pill" by healthcare providers. It was, and still is, the best nonprescription menstrual pain reliever.Naproxen sodium inhibits prostaglandin release. Prostaglandins can be responsible for menstrual pain http://women.webmd.com/menstrual-pain.Midol can contain pain relievers (such as ibuprofen) which inhibit prostaglandin release, but in my personal experience naproxen sodium works much better.
What's the best medicine for menstrual cramps?
Q: Thank you for any help you provide.
A: if you want over the counter pain killers, it differs with each person. Try tylenol, aspirin, pamprin, any pain reliever that specifies muscle cramps. Just don't take too heavy of a dosage for prolonged period of time because your body will build up an immunity (which is why i rotate between tylenol and aspirin every once in a while when i feel one is not working as well).other than that, a heat pack works really really well to relieve cramps because it relaxes your adominal muscles. you can make a hot water pack at home or buy the ones from the pharmacy, they work wonders. and for menstrual pains, you want to stay away from icy/cold foods and beverages and you'll want to keep yourself (feet especially!) warm. when you're body is cold, muscles tend to tense up even more.
Best medicine for menstrual cramps? Midol any better than Tylonel?
Q: Which one is the best, or are they all pretty much the same? Do different ones work in different ways and treat different symptoms? Thanks.
A: Midol has caffeine in it so you don't feel as groggy. Honestly, either one of them will get rid of the cramps.
