- Q: my girlfriend shes scared of the dentist hence..1 back moler is totally broke away and she has an abscess there..but the pains on other side?shes in bits with pain .we confused.the dentist prescribed both?.how long do they take to start working.thanks r
- A: Amoxicillin kills aerobic organisms,(ones that need oxygen to live,) and metronidazole kills anaerobic organisms,(ones that live in oxygen free atmospheres.) Both can be found in the mouth and thus that combination is popular with dentists. They start to work quite quickly but do not always remove the need for dental intervention.
- Metronidazole??
- Q: I just got a kitten on saturday and took it straight to the vet. They did a stool sample and it came back positive for Gerardia. The Vet gave me some Metronidazole to give to him twice a day for 8 days. I am only supposed to give him .04 ml each dose. This is not much at all and I was wondering if that sounds about right for a 7 week 1.7lb kitten, or should it be .4ml??
- A: Call the vet back and ask him! Don't trust anybody's advice here for medication! If you don't give him the proper dosage, he could have an overdose!http://www.wedgewoodpharmacy.com/monographs/metronidazole.asp
- How much Metronidazole should a pup take?
- Q: I have a 11 week old chihuahua pup that weighs about 2 lbs. She had Giardia and Coccidia before I got her. When I found out I treated her with .25cc of Metronidazole and Albon for 5 days. A week later had her examined again. She came back positive for Giardia again. Now I am told to treat her again with .25cc of Metronidazole for two weeks. Does anyone know if this .25cc amount is right? When I read about it I hear different amounts. Obviously it didnt get rid of it the first time? Please help.
- A: If the veterinarian told you .25cc then it's the right amount.Sometimes parasites are very stubborn and need to have an extra dose of medication to get rid of them. Once sometimes isn't enough. We need 2 stools samples to be NEOP (no evidence of parasites) in order to say that they are clear of parasites. It may be different in at your vets practice. If you're unsure of the doseage, call them and confirm. It'll be easy enough for the receptionist or vet tech to look up the informationon the computer.
