Although they may have similar symptoms, colds and flu are different. Colds tend to begin slowly, and people may sense that they're getting a cold before most of the signs appear. Flu symptoms often seem to appear "out of nowhere"...

Did you experience cold/flu symptoms when you had your first herpes outbreak?
Q: Do you remember your first outbreak? Did you have cold symptoms along with the blisters?
A: I didn't actually have blisters, although I had a 'cut'; the actual outbreak itself was not very severe or extensive. But I had terrible flu-like symptoms, shivering, fever, sore skin, dizziness and just feeling horrendously off-colour. Those symptoms lasted for 4-5 days from onset and they were terrible. It felt like the worst flu I'd ever had.To anyone who thinks herpes only produces localised symptoms and you don't get sick with it:When you first catch herpes your body is fighting a new infection, so it is normal to have symptoms of that infection - such as a fever. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it happens to a high proportion of people catching herpes for the first time. Symptoms are usually described as 'flu-like'.Colds and herpes: yes, a cold can trigger a herpes outbreak. And recurrent outbreaks, or cold sores, do not usually cause flu-like symptoms or a fever. But recurrent herpes CAN occasionally give you a fever etc. It is an infection, and if your body struggles to fight it you will have a fever. This can happen to people with cold sores or genital herpes. I have had to go to the emergency doctor with a high fever due to a recurrent herpes outbreak in the past. That happened a year after my primary outbreak; these days, herpes doesn't make me sick any more. The fever isn't always due to a cold - it can be caused by the herpes virus itself, especially in new infections.
Can cold/flu symptoms be a sign of pregnancy ?
Q: i have cold/flu symptoms and the doctors say i have to let it wear off like a virus . my mother says that every time she was pregnant , she went to the doctor about cold/flu symptoms and found out that she was pregnant . could this be for me ?
A: Well, your immune system can decline when pregnant, so it is possible to be more susceptible to the cold or flu. I wouldn't take it as a definite sign. Also, some pregnant women get stuffy noses. I got that and still have it. Ugh... Take a test! Or wait until your late and then take the test for more definite results. Good luck!
Best ways to ease up cold/flu symptoms?
Q: Hi all, well I've caught myself a bug of some kind. It started out as an uncomfortable sore throat. The next morning the sore throat eased up on it's own but now I'm coughing a lot. Sometimes the cough is productive and sometimes its dry. I only hope this doesn't progress into something worse like the flu. For now though I think it's a mild cold of some kind. Anyway, do you have any recommendations to help ease up some of these symptoms to make life a little more comfortable? Any help would be great. Thanks. =)
A: 2 things, hon. 1st--heat water like you would for tea. Add the juice of 1/2 to 1 lemon, and a couple tablespoons of honey. Stir and sip. My mom used to do this when I was growing up, and it always helped. That first sip is a doozy with the sour lemon, but after that it is rather soothing.2nd. Drinks LOTS of water. Try to flush whatever this is out of your system. It can be uncomfy to drink, so even try it cool to cold--the numbing effect can be soothing.Try broth, chicken soup with lemon, and rest as much as you can. Hope you feel better soon!
