- When do you suggest our irrigation to be turned off for the winter? Ohio?
- Q: We live in Ohio. Not sure when to get the irrigation shut off, winterized. Any suggestions? Our irrigation system thought end of Oct. Would I need to water the lawn for any reason in Nov?
- A: Exactly. There is no reason. The fall/winter rains will keep the ground moist. And besides the cold slows the plant growth down. I turn my irrigation off when I stop cutting the lawn for the year. Mid- Sept.
- When should I shut off my irrigation system for the winter?
- Q: I live in Massachusetts, and am wondering when I should shut off the lawn irrigation system before the winter.
- A: You should shut off you irrigation system well before you expect it to get cold enough to freeze. If you put it off too long you'll be out in your yard freezing your fingers trying to drain it!!Don't forget to drain and blow out the system with compressed air. Water left in the system will freeze and could break the pipes.
