- A: If he is cramping it may not be from lack of stretching. Try to run for several minutes easy, then do some ballistic stretching. Swing your legs front to back and side to side. This is a better stretch than static stretching. Make sure he is not getting dehydrated which is a major cause of cramps. Run easy do not try to push the pace. If he is comfortable you can increase the speed. After running walk until you cool down.
