- A: Giardia isn't a bacteria. And believe me, you would KNOW if you had it. Yuck! I have cats and we've been through giardia several times. It's nasty. A test for giardia takes 30 seconds. Take a sample, look at it under a microscope. That's it. Diagnosis made. Only one test is needed, and it isn't a "negative" test. If the vet sees giardia, the test is positive. If he doesn't see any giardia, it's a negative result.Most diseases that we have today (excluding the 3rd world) are lifestyle diseases. We are killing ourselves. Parasites are almost unheard of, and bacteria are easily controlled.
